The Calbee Group has a vision of earning the respect, admiration, and love of our customers, suppliers, and distributors first, our employees and their families second, communities third, and finally our stockholders. Our actions follow our code of conduct. Rooted in our basic attitude towards corporate social responsibility, our Group Companies pool together their efforts in CSR activities so that they can contribute to the growth of society as exemplary corporate citizens.
Our Mission Statement regarding Community Giving of the Calbee Group
We the employees of the Calbee Group will act as good citizens and contribute to both the global community and the local community in which we live and work.
Our Policy on Community Giving
Our business cannot continue without the support and understanding of local customers. It is important for our plants and offices to mutually coexist with the people in the local community.
The Calbee Group establishes a community giving committee in each of its business entities, and is committed to giving back to communities. Employees of the Group take to heart our principle of remaining community-focused and working hard, devising and taking action in an effort to contribute to their local communities.
In fiscal 2013, our local headquarters and Group Companies across the country voluntarily engaged in community giving. Based on the idea of contributing to local communities set forth in the Calbee Group's code of conduct, we strive to maintain harmony and cooperate with local communities, as well as exercise individual initiative within our work and social contribution activities. The personal development of each employee into a person that can contribute to others is indispensable for the continued growth of the Calbee Group. Likewise, as stated in the Group Vision, it is also vitally important for us to earn the love of communities.
Contributing to Communities through Snacks
We organize food communication activities across the country with the aim of helping people lead healthy lifestyles, communicating correct information about food, and spreading the joy of eating through the snacks everyone knows.
We follow four different themes to create new forms of communication. In particular, we focus on supporting dietary education activities to ensure the healthy living and growth of children who will lead future generations.
- Four themes of food communication
- 1Propose enjoyable ways for eating snacks
- The main focus of our educational support is the Calbee Snack School, in which we visit elementary schools to spread information about dietary education.
- 2Oyatsu communication
- We organize family events at retail stores and public facilities, and use them to convey Calbee's safety commitments. Participants also experience the joy of eating snacks.
- 3Using the bounty of nature
- We conduct nutritional research on potatoes, give presentations at academic meetings, and organize lectures.
- 4Safety and environment
- We invite visitors to our plants to tell them about Calbee's commitments to safety.
Support for recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake
We continue to provide long-term support for the affected area. We send members of staff out to the area to get involved in activities in partnership with local residents, including planting potatoes with children in Ishinomaki and providing support for agricultural high schools in Miyagi.
Michinoku Future Fund
The Michinoku Future Fund was established in October 2011 as a three-way venture between Rohto, Kagome and Calbee, as a scholarship fund to help children who have lost their parents in the Great East Japan Earthquake to continue their education after graduating from high school.
We are working to raise funds and donations, and secure support for children affected by the earthquake, with the aim of continuing activities for around 25 years, which is what it would take to support children who were still babies when the earthquake struck. By March 2016, the fund has helped 527 children, giving them the support they need to advance to universities, colleges or professional training institutions.
